A Girl’s Guide to Packing for Two Weeks in Asia

female packing list for to weeks in asia

Packing for a trip can be quite stressful, and it can take years of experience getting it right. But luckily I think I may just have mastered it. I’ve written my girl’s guide to packing for two weeks in Asia for my trip to Sri Lanka (in one week!), but you’ll find it’s relevant any backpacking destination with a tropical climate.

Clothing + Footwear

Normally when backpacking I’d try not to go overboard as lugging around massive amounts of clothes is a nightmare, however considering we’re doing a mix of holidaying and backpacking for two, I’ll be taking a bit more:

  • Minimum of 3 casual vests for the day time
  • Minimum of 3 pairs of light shorts for the day time
  • 1-2 pairs of Levi Denim shorts
  • 1 pair of Leggings and/or loose pants
  • 2-3 casual jersey play suits
  • 2-3 nice dresses, mixture of long and short
  • Several tops, crop tops or vests to wear in the evening with shorts
  • Warm hoody or jumper
  • Waterproof jacket (weather dependant)
  • At least 7 days worth of underwear – you can find laundry places everywhere in Asia
  • Bikinis x 5
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Flip Flops – You will go through at least 3 pairs of these so it’s lucky you can pick them up quite cheap anywhere around Asia
  • Sandals – For the nicer evenings
  • Trainers – To travel in or for any hikes/activities you end up doing

Tip: Stick to black, greys and dark colours as white will get dirty easily

Toiletries

You can pick up toiletries anywhere in Asia, however I suggest bringing certain products with you as some can contain skin whitening chemicals which is not ideal if you’re trying to tan.

  • Shampoo/Conditioner – You could always pick this up when you get there instead
  • Soap or Shower Gel – I prefer soap as it’s lighter to carry and takes less room, you can buy a soap container in most shops
  • Sun Cream
  • Toothbrush + Tooth brush holder
  • Toothpaste
  • Roll on Deodorant
  • Mini Face Wash
  • Mini Dry Shampoo
  • Mosquito Repellant
  • Razor
  • Hairbrush + Hair Ties and Clips
  • Rehydration Sachets
  • Travel Sickness Tablets
  • First Aid Items
  • Prescription Medicines
  • Probiotic Tablets

Bags + Packing

A good quality backpack will go along way and is well worth the investment. I always advise a backpack when travelling Asia purely out of ease when moving around from place to place.

  • Sturdy, quality backpack – I’ll be using my 80L Berghaus one
  • Day Backpack
  • Packing Cubes – One of the best things I bought, makes packing and finding things much easier
  • Mini Laundry Bag
  • Travel Toiletries Bag – Find one with detachable compartments
  • Mini Pursefemale packing list asia

Tech + Gadgets

I don’t like to bring too many gadgets as it draws the wrong attention, however you’ll need at least one camera along with chargers to make sure you capture all those beautiful sights. A Kindle or tablet can be really useful in much easier to carry than books.

  • GoPro + stick/head mount
  • Good quality digital camera – For those good shots
  • Chargers
  • Adapters
  • Earphones
  • Bluetooth Speaker
  • Kindle

Other Items to Pack

A few additional items to bring along with you. Hotels and most good hostels will provide towelsm giving you the chance to save on a bit of weight.

  • Travel Towel
  • Beach Towel or Sarong
  • Padlocks x 2
  • Travel Wallet
  • Lanyard – Handy to clip your purse or camera to the inside of your day backpack
  • Packet Tissues
  • Passport Photos – In case you’re going to more than one destination and require visa on entry
  • Neck Pillow
  • Eyemask +Earplugs

What’s in your backpack! Let me know if there’s anything I’ve missed.
